Skipper Study is a free place to test what you remember between lessons or before a passage. The question bank has more than 350 original questions across 14 modules. Each round draws a fresh selection, so you can return to a topic without working through the same fixed quiz every time. You can use it on a phone at the chart table or on a larger screen when you have time to sit down with your notes.
Work through coastal navigation, chart symbols, pilotage and passage planning. Some questions ask you to interpret a situation or choose a sensible next step, while others check the terms and calculations you need to recognise. The tides module helps you revisit tidal streams and the decisions that depend on them. If you miss one, use the review to see the explanation, then check the method against your course material. A quick answer is useful, but knowing why it is right is what helps later.
The buoyage and lights modules include visual questions alongside text questions. They give you a chance to practise recognising marks, shapes and light patterns without waiting for the next classroom session. Questions on the collision regulations cover practical choices such as lookout, safe speed and how vessels should act when they meet. Take your time with these. Being able to name a rule is different from applying it to a situation developing on the water.
You can also practise VHF, meteorology, anchoring, engines, safety and seamanship. These topics connect the chartwork to the ordinary decisions involved in preparing and handling a boat. If one area feels less familiar, open Settings and select just that module. You can bring the other modules back whenever you want a mixed round.
Choose a round of 10, 15, 20, 30 or 50 questions. The default is 10, which is short enough for a focused session. Pick the modules you want, start the round and answer one question at a time. At the end you will see your score and can review every answer, including the correct choice and a short explanation. Your module and round size settings stay on this device, so the next session can start where you left them.
There is no need to treat a score as a prediction of an exam result. Use missed questions to find a gap, return to your notes, and try another round later. The questions are independent practice material, not official RYA exam questions or a replacement for an instructor. For decisions at sea, use current official guidance, your charts and publications, and the judgement you build through training.
