How we prepare the questions
Skipper Study is an independent practice tool for people working through Day Skipper theory. It gives you a way to test recall between lessons and see why an answer is right.
Writing and checking
Questions are written for this site, rather than copied from RYA papers. Each question has an explanation and a record of sources in the question bank. The public topic guides and selected examples were checked against the primary sources linked on each guide on 27 September 2026. We do not claim that a qualified RYA instructor reviewed the bank.
A source link supports a rule or definition; it does not make a short practice answer a complete account of every situation. We use explicit scope where it matters, including IALA Region A for lateral marks and chart datum for depth examples. We update material when a source or a reported error gives us reason to do so, and change the review date only after a substantive check.
What this is for
The questions are independent revision material. They are not official RYA exam questions, a course, or advice for a live passage. Use current charts, notices, official publications and qualified instruction for decisions at sea. Skipper Study is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Royal Yachting Association.
